This pliers prototype utilizes compliant mechanisms, inspired by designs from Brigham Young University's Compliant Mechanisms Research (CMR@BYU), available for download at http://compliantmechanisms.byu.edu/downloads/prototypes. It was successfully printed using PolyFlex material from Polymakr on a MakerBot Replicator 2X. For more information, visit polymakr.com/blog or the Kickstarter campaign page at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1981875718/polymakr-entirely-new-materials-for-desktop-3d-pri/posts/846907. The printing process requires a temperature of 220°C, with speeds between 45 - 60 mm/s. No heated plate is needed, and there's no requirement for support or raft during printing.
