The vehicle I designed was heavily influenced by the OPENRC Project's innovative approach. My goal was to simplify its mechanics while incorporating cutting-edge technology from DJI Phantom brushless motors and various other aerial RC hardware that I had on hand. I chose these parts because they offered a unique combination of speed, torque, and efficiency that I had yet to see in any similar vehicle. The drivetrain's sleek design eliminated the need for costly linkages such as shafts, gearing, belts, and ESCs (Motor Controllers). The result is a high-performance vehicle with exceptional acceleration and torque. Although I'm hesitant to push it to its limits due to my limited driving space, I'm confident that this design will impress even the most seasoned RC enthusiasts. Speaking of ESCs, I experimented with using identical controllers but ended up getting better results from a non-Simon K unit. This unexpected finding has given me valuable insight into the importance of component selection in achieving optimal performance. The steering system utilizes two 9g servos integrated seamlessly into the top A-arm. By allowing the servo to move in sync with the suspension, this design eliminates the need for complex linkage systems, making it more efficient and reliable. Custom-made wheels are essential for this vehicle, and I've designed a road set and an off-road set using my 3D printing capabilities. While the wheels may not fit standard tires, I've made them adaptable to various motor configurations. For added versatility, skateboard bearings are used in the front wheels to enable smooth rotation. When printing the parts, it's crucial to use high-density infill to ensure durability and stability. In my early development stages, a crash destroyed all the printed parts, so I highly recommend this approach. Although I initially planned to use ABS for its strength and heat resistance, I've since switched to PLA due to issues with my heated bed. Any transmitter will work with this vehicle as long as the servos are correctly mixed together for synchronized movement. To aid in assembly, I've included detailed screenshots and CAD files from my design software. If you have any questions or need clarification on any aspect of the build process, feel free to leave a comment, and I'll do my best to assist you. Enjoy your new vehicle!
