Full Sized Optimus Prime Cos-Play Costume
myminifactory
I'm sorry for not posting sooner, but I wanted to make this a big surprise! This print is based on a toy, and the first few pictures are of the toy so I could get some measurements for the full-size costume. This is my full-size six-foot-tall Optimus Prime costume for the next Comic-Con event, so please expect to spend at least 300 to 400 hours printing this costume, as well as about ten rolls of filament. Most parts are 0.4mm thick layer down to 0.2mm layer depending on part and support. You will have to adjust your printer according to your finish. This was done on both my CoreXY printers and my extra larger Delta printer. You can find the source files for this project at Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2731724, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2718545, and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2414471. I adjusted the Z-axis down to 340mm per step to make the shell stronger but just a little shorter since this will be a costume that will have to endure 20 hours of wearing it. I only started printing this costume less than two weeks ago, so it is a print in progress. Parts will be updated and removed as it progresses to the finish product, so expect parts to be added and removed. This will be my biggest 3D build up to date; my last 3D build was my Dalek (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2576488), which I only printed from the midsection up. All the parts listed here were printed hollow with a 2mm thick shell, and the original pieces came from a 3D-printed Optimus Prime toy that I found online and enlarged to six feet tall then hollowed out. Some parts are from that original toy but some parts I changed to make the costume look like a newer Optimus Prime. You can find the original Optimus Prime model here: https://cults3d.com/en/3D-model/art/optimus-prime. This is still a work in progress; I've just got the lower legs and a few garments to print, but I should be done in the next month. You will need a larger printer to print these parts. Each part will take anywhere from four hours to print up to twenty hours to print. You can print these parts on smaller printers, but expect to spend double the time printing this. I hope you enjoy this as I had plenty of headaches along the way, but it is coming along just fine. Included in this are the full-size Optimus Prime with two different heads, three different swords, two different gas tanks, two different shoulders, and Optimus Prime's Gen 1 blaster and other parts from other Prime versions that I thought would look nice in full size. Every part in this is for a full-size six-foot-tall costume. Every piece has been split into two or four or even eight parts so it can be printed on my extra-large printers. If you plan to print these parts on a smaller printer than what I have listed in this description, then you will have to split the pieces even smaller. On March 2nd, 2018, I uploaded a brand new Sword of Judgment. I hope you like it; it was the best I could do with the software I had on hand. Expect this sword to be updated as I get into better detail on the sword and include Cybertonium language embossed on the sword (https://tfsource.com/sword-of-judgement/). On March 19th, 2018, I uploaded a new waist and a new thicker Sword of Vengeance. I also uploaded some pictures of the completed parts, including lower legs and a new Sword of Vengeance. On April 6th, 2018, as of today, I've added the finished torso to the pictures. The next step will be to paint and put together. On June 4th, 2018, as of today, I've updated the final pictures of the finished Optimus Prime. The complete costume was so bulky that it was hard to walk around in, but I used a Swagtron off-road hoverboard to get around. Hope you enjoy! I've also added a few more parts that I printed to complete Optimus Prime. On a different note, the total time to print all parts from start to finish is over 700 hours to print.
