Fujian earthen buildings
cults3d
The Hakka in southeastern Fujian, China's mountainous regions, have their own unique rural dwellings known as Fujian tulou (Fujian earthen buildings). Constructed primarily between the 12th and 20th centuries, these dwellings are predominantly large, enclosed, and fortified earth structures, typically rectangular or circular in design. Their massive load-bearing rammed earth walls stand three to five stories high and can accommodate up to 800 residents. The smaller interior buildings within these perimeters often house halls, storehouses, wells, and living areas, creating a mini-fortified city-like complex.
