Installed in 1936, just before the start of the Civil War, this fountain is located in the Plaza Mayor of Villaverde Alto, the historic epicenter of the neighborhood. The City Hall, jail, bakery or courthouse were situated for centuries within that quadrangle. Due to its importance, it was also the first area of the district where electricity was installed and later a telephone booth was added. The fountain was used for decades by the neighbors of Villaverde who did not have access to potable water in their homes, waiting in line to fill and refill their bottles. I don't consider the fountain in Plaza Mayor of Villaverde to be a patrimonial element as such, but rather a characteristic object of the neighborhood, used by its inhabitants in different ways and included in daily life. In short, a small piece of local history to remember.
