Installed in 1936, just before the start of the Civil War, this fountain is located in the Plaza Mayor of Villaverde Alto, the historic nerve center of the neighborhood. The City Hall, the jail, the bakery or the courthouse were situated for centuries within that quadrangle. Due to its importance, it was also the first area of the district where electricity distribution and a telephone booth were installed. The fountain was used for decades by Villaverde residents who did not have access to potable water in their homes, waiting in line to fill and refill their bottles. I do not consider that the Plaza Mayor Fountain in Villaverde is a patrimonial element as such, but rather a characteristic object of the neighborhood, used by its inhabitants in various ways and included in daily life. In short, a small piece of local history to remember.
