The original tool was a game-changer created by Bugwrencher that saved my bacon big time. Its one major drawback was it only worked for barbs, but I've managed to make it super versatile so it can mostly replicate the expensive Dorman tool that inspired it. Now you can easily install flare fittings, barbs, and regular quick connects or 90-degree quick connects with ease. The piston is cleverly designed with a slotted design that lets you press a pre-made line with a fitting onto another existing line seamlessly. I also added a new secondary tapered clamp to insert a barb between two lines without any issues. You can add the alignment pegs to your print in your preferred software, but I found printing them separately at 100% infill and using plastic adhesive to secure them made for a much stronger connection overall. To make it fit perfectly in 9-inch guns, I slimmed down his clamps significantly. For best results, use 60% infill and 1.2mm walls for maximum longevity. Huge thanks to Bugwrencher for creating an awesome thing and helping me save some serious cash! To get started: Match the fitting you want to install with the corresponding insert. Next, simply fit the insert onto the piston and you're good to go! Important note: Use oil on both the fitting and line to ensure a smooth installation process. When installing barbs between two lines, use the normal clamp, the tapered clamp, and the piston without an insert. Make sure to install the barb on the main line first and then press the other line onto it after. Also, make sure the line curves up and out of the piston slot and doesn't get crimped in the process. For a 90-degree fitting, place the fitting in the insert and use a zip-tie to snug it down tight. The rest of the installation process is the same as for a straight fitting. The bolts used are 1/4" x 1 1/2". February 22, 2020 - I added a 90-degree insert and clearer instructions to make things even easier. February 24, 2020 - This tool has now successfully installed at least two of each type of fitting with no signs of wear. I also added the bolt dimensions to the summary for easy reference. February 28, 2020 - I added a 3/8" 90-degree insert and a 3/8" clamp to make it even more versatile.
