In layman's terms, I am unfamiliar with engine vocabulary. This component follows the carburetor and rotates above the cylinder. The gear atop drives this rotation via gears or shafts connected to the crankshaft. Fuel-air mixture enters through a central hole on the axis, while exhaust gases exit. Initially, the exhaust and carburetor were linked by a single pipe; however, a pre-combustion mix might damage it. In the first image, at 270 degrees - post ignition and exhaust fume extraction - the position indicates fuel-air intake. The two top holes accommodate spark plugs, rotating 90 degrees counterclockwise from that point.
