The artwork in question is a Japanese sculpture from the Heian period (794-1185) and dates back to the 12th century. The medium used for its creation was joined-woodblock construction with pigments, and it measures 63 3/4 inches (162 cm) in height. It falls under the classification of sculpture and is part of the Harry G.C. Packard Collection of Asian Art. The collection contains gifts from Harry G.C. Packard himself, as well as funds from Fletcher, Rogers, Harris Brisbane Dick, Louis V. Bell, Joseph Pulitzer Bequest, and The Annenberg Fund Inc., and was acquired in 1975 with the accession number 1975.268.163. This sculpture was captured and cleaned by Briana Mitchell as part of the High School Internship program at the Metropolitan Museum of Art during the summer of 2013.
