FT Viggen Hot Wire Templates
thingiverse
UPDATE: Templates Work Exceptionally Well; Photos Are Uploaded. We successfully adjusted temperature settings on the hot wire to cut through foam effectively, and our 3mm thick template printed from eSUN PETG held up remarkably well. It's essential to keep moving the wire, or it will start sinking into the plastic, but we're getting the hang of it. I'll be writing a detailed set of instructions with precise measurements as we near completion. We're still figuring things out as we go along. I've designed an additional 3 templates that I'll upload soon. Keep in mind: This project is not for the faint of heart, and it's impossible to do without either two sets of hands or some clever way to hold pieces while wire cutting. --- FT Viggen Page: https://www.flitetest.com/articles/ja-37-viggen-scratch-build Viggen Build Blog: https://www.flitetest.com/articles/ja37-viggen-edf-build-log I want to build a hot wire Viggen. Since I don't have a laser cutter, I believe using heat-resistant materials like ABS or PETG will allow me to 3D print templates and cut foam with them. Your material and wire temperature may require reinforcing the edges of your templates with superglue/epoxy or expanding them on the Z axis to make them thicker. However, if you have an adjustable-temperature wire, you should be able to cut through foam without damaging PETG. I created these by tracing and vectorizing plans. I haven't tested these templates yet, but I wanted to upload them here since I couldn't find similar files elsewhere online. I'll post pictures of my progress as I go along and update this project accordingly. To verify the scale, print the H (exhaust) first; its inner diameter should be 60mm. The F ones with cutouts are for EDFs, and their diameter should be 70mm.
