I'm excited to share my project with you, which involves creating a battery case specifically designed for use with 18650 cells and a BMS board. This custom case is tailored to fit these components perfectly, ensuring optimal performance and safety. To get started, I need to add a 10k ohm thermistor connected to the ground on the center contact of my FT-70D's onboard charger. This essential component enables the charger to function correctly. The fit within the battery case itself is remarkably snug, which may necessitate some modifications to accommodate your specific needs. To facilitate easy installation and prevent any potential short circuits, I recommend using cut-down nickel spot weld battery tabs as contacts. Once you've placed these contacts, it's highly advisable to apply a layer of epoxy on the inside of the case to safeguard against any accidental shorts. Considering the inherent risks associated with 18650 cell failures, I strongly advocate for the use of a BMS board when working with these cells. To minimize space and avoid the hassle of spot welding, I've opted to utilize pre-tabbed 18650s in my project.
