FT-5 Simple Carriage
thingiverse
This is a simple carriage designed specifically for the Folgertech FT5 printer. While it's primarily intended for the v1 model, I'm confident that it would work equally well with the v2 version as well. The carriage is optimized for use with a Bondtech BMG extruder or its clone and features a unique mounting system that allows you to turn the entire setup sideways. To assemble this carriage, you'll need to utilize the mount provided with your BMG extruder. This mount should be partially cut out in the top section and slightly notched at the bottom to accommodate the mounting setup. By doing so, the extruder is effectively raised, resulting in a gain of z height rather than a loss. This carriage design also significantly reduces nozzle sway by raising it up. It's essential to note that six M4x50 screws and nuts are used for mounting, although four may be sufficient depending on your specific setup. When choosing an extruder motor, any size will clear the Y-axis rail on the right-hand side. A pancake motor would be the most suitable choice for this configuration. Additionally, minor adjustments to the X-axis mount were necessary to restore full x-travel capabilities. Finally, relocating the Y-axis cable chain behind the gantry will provide further benefits in terms of smooth operation and reduced noise levels.
