FS1879 Remote Site Geologic Erosional Feature

FS1879 Remote Site Geologic Erosional Feature

sketchfab

This appears to be a geologic feature resulting from erosion, situated at an isolated archaeological site. Initially unclear whether this was solely erosional on flat Permian sandstones or linked to biogenic activity in original sediments. Several such features are associated directly with the Sinagua archaeological site. Compared to FS1866, this example definitively shows the feature is not biological and is a geologic erosion form. This model forms part of an ongoing project documenting "at risk" archaeology sites within the Coconino Forest in north-central Arizona due to natural or vandalism-related concerns. Additional information about the Red Rock District of the Coconino Forest can be accessed at sedonaredrocktrails.org and fs.usda.gov/recmain/coconino/recreation. Opportunities for volunteering in the Coconino Forest, including 3D model creation and other projects, are available at friendsoftheforestsedona.org.
