This is a grinding surface, a predominantly Sinagua site located in the Coconino Forest northwest of Sedona, Arizona. The site boasts extensive areas of pictograph and petroglyph rock art but lacks any evidence of room structures within its immediate vicinity, although some may be situated hundreds of meters away. This grinding surface was likely used for grinding corn or beans. The mano grinding stone found in association with the metate is basalt and may have been a stone used in conjunction with this surface. This example is situated approximately 10 meters from site FS1877. This model is part of photo documentation of sites within the Verde Valley considered to be at risk due to natural or human factors.
