FS1866 Remote Site Geologic Feature
sketchfab
This appears to be a dramatic geological formation situated deep within a secluded archaeological site. Its true nature remains uncertain, whether it's solely the result of erosion on flat-lying Permian sandstones or if it's connected to biological activity in the original sediments. Several similar formations are found directly adjacent to a Sinagua archaeological site, each bearing new scratched graffiti that would have been devastating if they were of archaeological significance. This model is part of an ongoing initiative to document endangered archaeological sites within the Coconino Forest of north-central Arizona, threatened by natural or vandalism-related issues. Further information about the Red Rock District of the Coconino Forest can be accessed at the following web addresses: http://www.sedonaredrocktrails.org/ http://www.fs.usda.gov/recmain/coconino/recreation Details on volunteer opportunities in the Coconino Forest, including the creation of 3D models and other projects, can be found at http://www.friendsoftheforestsedona.org/.
