FS1693 Kendrick Cabin Interior, Kaibab Forest

Kendrick Mountain Lookout Cabin in Kaibab Forest was constructed in 1911 to facilitate use of the fire lookout tower situated higher up on the mountain. The historic cabin narrowly escaped destruction during the intense 2000 "Pumpkin Fire" thanks to the swift actions of Forest Service Fire Fighters who covered it with flame-resistant materials and cleared surrounding fire zones. Kaibab Forest Service staff and volunteers collaborated to restore the cabin, while Sedona Friends of the Forest Volunteers created the intricate 3D models that brought this historic structure to life. The restoration effort earned a prestigious 2019 Governor's Heritage Preservation Honor Award in recognition of its exceptional value.
