This stunning marble portrait, acquired by the Louvre in recent times, is a remarkable work of art created by the talented Edme Bouchardon in 1736. The masterpiece depicts Frédéric de La Tour du Pin, a distinguished nobleman and Marquis of Gouvernet from 1694 to 1775. The marble sculpture bears an inscription and date, 1736, and was initially showcased at the prestigious Salon in 1738, where it was highly praised for its antique charm. Considered a one-of-a-kind portrait bust by Bouchardon, this sculpture is regarded as a pioneering work of neoclassicism in the history of sculpture. After being preserved within the family's studio, the piece was finally unveiled to the public in June 2012 and is now permanently displayed at The Louvre in Paris.
