Edit 22 Nov 2018: I've added a version modified for Vantac "lotus" style stick ends and, by request, an extended version for FRsky's "pincher" stick ends, which is 5mm longer. It's just a simple gimbal protector. I've added a couple of small hooks at each end so you can use an elastic band, bungee cord, or as I did, a chunk of shoelace to keep the protector in place. Now I can slide my transmitter into my bag with ease. I almost forgot - make sure supports are turned on up to about 80 degrees. You want the ends of the hooks supported and nothing else.
