Front wheel, free wheel clip for Smartrike-style childrens tricycles
thingiverse
This is a replacement part for Smartrike style children's tricycles. It is a clip designed to change the front wheel from trailing to active steering so that your child can either be pushed on the bike or steer it themselves. This clip can break, and I've strengthened it. The photo shows the original part. Replacing it requires effort, start by removing the front wheel assembly using the two clips. Next, you'll need to tackle the nylon bushing which must be removed. I managed this with the handles of two spoons; push the bushing open from the top and eventually it will come free. Then insert your printed clip and reassemble. I have no idea how long this part will last. Print Settings Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 90% Notes: It's crucial to print this in the orientation shown by default. You shouldn't want the layers to be perpendicular to the cylindrical parts as they will snap easily. Use support, then file the part down afterwards. I used a 90% infill to ensure maximum strength while avoiding overfilling it. I printed with ABS, one tip that was recently suggested - use a higher temperature to achieve excellent layer bonding.
