I decided to fabricate front and rear sights for my M4 airsoft rifle and .22 while waiting for my metal accessories to arrive. I crafted the front sights with a removable blade - which is a nice feature that allows you to make multiple blades if needed. After crafting several, I sanded them down to size to get a precise zeroing. It worked perfectly on both my airsoft and CMMG .22 rifle. On my .22 rifle, it's also very light. The front sight appears rugged enough, but the rear sight requires some care, so be gentle with it. To create my rear sight, I used a base remix from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:103878. For my .22 rifle, I'm currently using the custom-made front sight and paired it with a metal rear sight that fits well on the mini rifle. When assembling your front sight, you have two options - either glue the blade in or secure it with an M2 screw for the blade and M4 screws for the base. I used my MakerBot to print these parts with 10% infill, using two shells and a layer height of .3 millimeters. Feel free to adjust these specs according to your preferences. My custom front sights work fantastically, while the rear sights are more fragile. Hopefully, this information is helpful for you. I experimented with different colors, initially trying out yellow but ultimately going back to black ABS plastic that I used from my MakerBot printer. The results look fantastic, especially for the front sight. Everything was remixed and designed within Tinkercad - it was a breeze!
