This striking artwork by Italian master Guido Mazzoni showcases a robust male torso, a fragment that could very well be part of an entire figure used in a dramatic group scene. A prolific sculptor, Mazzoni crafted numerous iconic religious groups throughout his career, with his Adoration of the Shepherds at Modena Cathedral being one of his most celebrated works. His Compiantos, a poignant depiction of mourning over Christ's dead body, may have inspired this very piece.
