Here's a design modification that might interest you, just in case it comes in handy someday. This particular solution is tailored for a Frigidaire portable air conditioner. The device features an exhaust outlet that inserts into a window and includes a sliding extension arm for accommodating varying window sizes. I opted to eliminate the extension arm entirely, but you can easily adapt this concept to suit your needs.
