Frieze Slab from the Ionic Temple on the Ilissos in Athens [3]
myminifactory
Athens (Greece) was acquired by Venice in 1872. This ancient marble dates back to the period between 425 - 400 BC. The three fragments of a frieze display standing and sitting men on traveling sacks, along with a scene depicting women being raped. Scenes from this frieze, which also include parts in Vienna and Athens, are interpreted as illustrations from the Pelasgian legend, thus referencing Greek prehistoric times. Two other fragments from the same group can be accessed here and here.
