Fridge Panda

Fridge Panda

Originally created as a Secret Santa gift for a panda-obsessed friend, this little guy makes a fun statement on any fridge. The six individual pieces can be scattered around the fridge to do their job, and when there's nothing for them to do, your panda can reassemble to munch on that delicious bamboo.

The eyes can be rotated to provide a variety of expressions, and the bamboo snaps in/out of the hand, so you can print different colors (or even entirely different shapes) and use them as secret family codes. (We use different colors to signify whose week it is to feed the dog.)

Magnets

I made mine with 1.75mm thick disk magnets designed for fridges, rather than the really strong neodymiums. I used 2 each (15mm diam) for the head and torso, and then one 12mm diam for each of the hands and feet. (The magnet sockets are defined using Boolean modifiers, so you can alter them to suit whatever magnets you have on hand if you're comfortable with Blender.)

Printing

PLA with 0.3mm layers works fine for me. I've provided 3mf files, but if you want to customize your settings, be sure to group the parts based on filament swapping requirements, as follows.

Black at z=0mm then White at z=3mm: the ears, the hands, the feet, the pedestals, and the tummy.

White at z=0mm then Black at z=6mm : the face

Green: the bamboo leaf

Duplication: Make sure you print 2 feet, 2 hands, and 4 copies of the pedestal. There's no need to mirror reverse the extras as they're all symmetrical.

Assembly

snap the ear plate into the back of the head plate

snap a pedestal into the back of each hand and foot

glues magnets into the sockets on the backs of all the pieces (except the bamboo)

snap the bamboo into one of the hands

(All snap fits came out pretty tight on my printer, but I recommend gluing all of them except the bamboo leaf.)
