Fretboard Nut Slotting Jig

This jig is intended for precision cutting a slot in the fretboard for a Fender-style nut. It is designed to be used in combination with a fret slotting template, utilizing an indexing pin for precise location of the fretboard. Longitudinal adjustment is achieved through the use of an eccentric nut located in a purpose made adjustment plate. Vertical adjustment (for nut slot depth) is achieved by micro-adjustment of the router bit position in the collet. The slot width is determined by the router bit diameter (Ø3.2mm, for example).I have built this jig and proven that it can produce a repeatedly accurate nut slot in a fretboard. Some components of the jig are designed around parts and materials that I had available at the time and some parts have been taken from existing equipment and re-purposed for the design. The traversing system is built around 'off-the-shelf' components, including a linear guide carriage & rail; a lead screw and associated components; and a hand wheel. Standard horizontal toggle clamps are used to hold down the fretboard (attached to the fret slotting template). The router mounting system uses an 'off-the-shelf' spindle mount. The remaining components are made from stock items. All of the manufactured parts can be fabricated by hand.I have uploaded engineering drawings to aid in the manufacture of the jig.
