This precision timepiece was crafted by renowned horologist Adolphe Mougin. He was an esteemed master watchmaker who created pendulum clocks for several prominent watch manufacturers during his career. Since Mougin produced watches in the late 19th century, we can reasonably conclude that the dial and case from the early 18th century are not original to him. Therefore, it's likely that the old movement associated with these components was replaced after 1889 by A. Mougin's award-winning pendulum mechanism. Identifying the creator of the dial and case is challenging due to the almost complete disappearance of the signature in the center of the dial behind the hands. Nevertheless, based on style and date of manufacture, we discovered some similarities with timepieces created by Charles Balthazar, a well-known watchmaker from the 18th century. These parallels make this timepiece an exceptionally interesting piece that combines a masterpiece of art from the 18th century with a mechanism of outstanding excellence from the late 19th century.
