French helmet

Divers rely heavily on rigid head enclosures with built-in breathing gas supplies to navigate underwater environments. Professionals in surface-supplied diving operations wear these enclosures most frequently. A critical component of this equipment is the upper section, commonly referred to as the hat or bonnet. This part can be securely attached to either the diver themselves or their suit using a lower portion known as a neck dam, breastplate, or corselet – depending on specific design and regional dialect considerations. A model illustrated here represents a French-made helmet created around 1940.
