Freewing A-10 Thunderbolt II 80mm Nose Gear retract reinforcement
thingiverse
Developed an enhanced reinforcement system based on the original nose landing gear replacement part. Purchased this spare component after mine broke during a hard landing, but soon realized that replacing it would be a challenging task. Once only the base of the retract is partially damaged, I anticipate that this 3D printed reinforcement will effectively secure the nose landing gear. This new design should also prove useful for brand-new planes, providing added support to the screws' base by addressing the thin original plastic hole that can easily break during hard landings. The 3D reinforcement has not been glued in place, allowing it to potentially break and be replaced in case of another hard impact. Currently working on a new version featuring two faces that lock into the plate like a sandwich, which will provide a more robust solution for completely broken screw bases of the nose retract, expected to be completed by mid-March 2020.
