FreeSans Block Typeset Font
thingiverse
The "FreeSans" font-based character set was created by the FreeFont project (available at http://www.gnu.org/software/freefont). Due to difficulties with Wings3D's text function, individual characters were placed in separate blocks for typesetting purposes. The file set includes both extruded and intruded versions in Wings3D and STL formats. Recently, the set was updated to fix edge orthogonality issues caused by roundoff errors. For use with Wings3D, select desired characters, attach them using "Put On," then combine all characters into a single object via the "Weld" function. Post-welding, lines between characters can be removed and text attached to any surface. STL files are compatible with other tools like OpenSCAD; however, manipulating characters into text strings may be more challenging outside of Wings3D. As the FreeFont fonts are licensed under GPL, this character set is also governed by the same license. Remember that many fonts are proprietary; visit https://www.gnu.org/software/freefont/freefont.html#why-free-fonts for more information on free fonts.
