You can upgrade the dim 3V incandescent bulb in a free headlight with a much brighter 9 LED array from a free flashlight. Both items are available at Harbor Freight for no cost. The battery pack converts 3 AAA batteries into the 2 AA battery compartment of the free headlamp, delivering 4.5 volts to the pins inside the light housing. Using tin foil to create contacts works effectively in my experience. To attach the LED array from the free flashlight, you'll need to remove it from the device by taking out the battery pack and gently pushing the array through the end with some sockets and a little hammering. Next, press the reflector into the adapter in the desired orientation. Then, solder wires to the positive and negative terminals of the LED array and connect them to the pins inside the housing. Finally, close the housing and secure it.
