The statue itself is a majestic 3-meter high monument overlooking Lake Geneva and was unveiled by Freddie's father and the legendary opera singer Montserrat Caballé on November 25, 1996. To commemorate the iconic singer, Royal Mail issued a special stamp as part of their Millennium Stamp series. Additionally, a commemorative plaque was erected at Mercury's family home in Feltham, England, where they settled in 1964. Freddie Mercury cherished his second home in Montreux and was deeply grateful for the community's respect for his privacy while he stayed there; as such, he included them in his will.
