A life-sized tribute stands tall in Montreux, Switzerland, crafted by Irena Sedlecka, a renowned sculptor. Fans worldwide flock to the city every September, gathering on the first weekend of the month since 2003 to honor Mercury's legacy as part of the "Freddie Mercury Montreux Memorial Day." The statue itself is a majestic 3-meter high monument overlooking Lake Geneva and was unveiled by Freddie's father and the legendary opera singer Montserrat Caballé on November 25, 1996. To commemorate the iconic singer, Royal Mail issued a special stamp as part of their Millennium Stamp series. Additionally, a commemorative plaque was erected at Mercury's family home in Feltham, England, where they settled in 1964. Other notable figures like Robbie Williams and George Michael have also paid tribute to the legendary rockstar. Even in the anime Cromartie High School, a character named Freddie is inspired by Mercury's appearance and charisma. Freddie Mercury cherished his second home in Montreux and was deeply grateful for the community's respect for his privacy while he stayed there; as such, he included them in his will. The local community chose to honor him with this statue as an expression of their appreciation for the singer's contribution to their lives.
