FRC Team 4026 Parts Storage Cabinet

We designed this storage cabinet to make it easier to store and transport our small parts storage cases. The cabinet was designed in Fusion 360.We use theses Harbor Freight storage cases:https://www.harborfreight.com/8-bin-portable-parts-storage-case-93927.htmlhttps://www.harborfreight.com/20-bin-medium-portable-parts-storage-case-93928.htmlWe've found that these cases are not always consistently sized, so some adjustment to the supporting rails might be needed.On our initial build, we used plywood for the case rails, but hard wood like oak would be better suited...our heavier cases are wearing on the plywood rails.We originally designed the case to use slip off hinges so we could separate the cabinets if needed, but found that they liked to slip apart when we were moving the cabinet in and out of our trailer...we replaced them with fixed hinges. We use butterfly latches to keep the cabinet closed. We were hoping that these latches would apply enough tension to keep the cabinets secure during transport, but we still see movement between the two sides. We are considering adding pins to the latch side of one cabinet to help hold the whole thing together when closed for transport. A more heavy duty latch might also do the trick.We originally used four heavy duty locking casters on each side of the cabinet and found that when closed, the inside caster can get hung up on each other, making it hard to roll. We have replaced them with non-locking casters.Like all things FRC, it's a work in progress.
