Fraser Mausoleum, Cluny, Aberdeenshire

Miss Elyza Fraser's final resting place is found within a stunning Roman neo-classical mausoleum, skillfully crafted by her close friend James Byres of Tonley. This magnificent monument resides peacefully in Cluny old kirkyard, nestled deep within Aberdeenshire. Nearby the mausoleum stands four robust mortsafes, cleverly constructed from iron cages that would have enclosed Miss Fraser's coffin securely in its grave. These heavy mortsafes are topped with massive slabs of granite, making it an extremely challenging task to move them clandestinely. The weighty mortsafes require the use of block and tackle to carefully maneuver them into place within the grave.
