Francisco Bolognesi Cervantes was born in Lima, Viceroyalty of Peru on November 4, 1816 and died in Arica, Peru on June 7, 1880. This Peruvian military leader made his mark during the Pacific War, earning recognition for his bravery. As a colonel, he led the defense of Plaza de Arica against overwhelming Chilean forces, promising to fight until every last bullet was spent. His final stand ended in sacrifice, as he died on the battlefield. In 1951, Bolognesi Cervantes was declared Patron of the Army of Peru through General Order No. 2, and his contributions were further honored when he was elevated to Grand Marshal of Peru by Law No. 25,128 on November 30, 1989. Today, he is celebrated as a National Hero in Peru.
