This sculpture was created by Antoine-François Gérard, a renowned French sculptor born in Paris in 1760. He studied under the tutelage of Jean Guillaume Moitte at the prestigious Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. In 1785, Gérard received the second prize for his outstanding sculpture work, with Claude Michallon taking home the top honor that year. Three years later, he achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the first grand prix of Rome with "Joseph Meets Jacob." This accomplishment earned him a spot at the esteemed Palais Mancini, the headquarters of the Academy of France in Rome between 1789 and 1793. However, Gérard's stay was cut short due to anti-French riots and the tragic assassination of Jean-Nicolas Hugou de Bassville. Following the rise of the Empire, he received numerous commissions from the state and participated in designing grand monuments for Paris. By 1830, his work on the Arc de Triomphe was complete, and the iconic sculpture "Victorious France" took its rightful place atop the monument. Gérard then devoted himself exclusively to creating prints, a passion that had been with him since the beginning. He passed away in his home in Paris on September 16, 1843. This object is part of the "Scan The World" initiative, a non-profit project launched by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully printable sculptures and landmarks from around the globe for public access.
