If you have a magnet and stiff wire, this allows you to make a hook out of them without gluing, and enclosing the magnet for scratch-proofing without requiring a pause in printing.

As designed, needs to be be printed in semi-flexible filament to allow insertion of the magnet; some clearance/tolerance adjustments might let it work in more rigid filaments. The provided STL is for a magnet with diameter 18 mm and thickness 3 mm.

Also on GitHub: https://github.com/kpreid/3dp-hooks

Print instructions

Print using flexible filament — this both helps with gripping the surface and is needed to insert the magnet. The supplied gcode is for Colorfabb nGen Flex.

Insert the magnet while the print is still warm, if convenient.

Bend the wire in half to form the hook tip, then insert the ends through the holes and bend the ends to lock it in place. Bend hook shape to suit.

Note: The wire I used is coated aluminum wire (sold as craft supplies, not electrical wire). Using bare copper wire will darken and corrode. For a sturdier hook, you would want to use a different metal — this one is only hanging a potholder.
