Fragments of sarcophagus with the myth of Jason and Medea and with the scene of dextrarum Iunctio
myminifactory
These two fragments originate from the same sarcophagus. The relief (inv. 8647) depicts Jason, clad in helmet and shield, grasping the golden veil as he evades a snake entranced by Medea's spell. On the adjacent fragment (inv. 8646), a poignant funerary farewell scene unfolds, where a couple shares a tender right-handed handshake, symbolizing the unbreakable bond of marriage. In this heart-wrenching moment, the woman gently wipes away her tears with her cloak as the man bids her a sorrowful final goodbye.
