Fragmentary bronze portrait of Caracalla at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
myminifactory
This stunning bronze portrait of Emperor Caracalla stands as a testament to Roman artistry (Severan) from the year 212-217 AD. The image portrays Caracalla in his prime, having ascended to sole emperor after the passing of his father, Septimius Severus, who met his demise at York in A.D. 211 during a military campaign in northern Britain. Caracalla's reign was cut short by his own death near Carrhae in northern Mesopotamia while clashing with the Parthians, marking just six years of his rule.
