Fragment of a grave stele

If the exact origin of this relief remains uncertain, it could very well have originated from Athens. It depicts a young woman, clad in a sleeved chiton that leaves her right shoulder exposed, standing frontally with her legs crossed. With her bent left arm, she supports herself on a loutrophoros, while lifting the mantle that falls lightly on her shoulders with her right hand. The woman's head was likely turned to the left. The iconographic type of the figure is based on a renowned divine statue, probably the "Aphrodite in the Gardens" by the skilled sculptor Alkamenes.
