The fragment discovered in Anavyssos, Attica, showcases only the face of a woman who cradles the head of a child with her left hand. The original stele would have depicted the woman seated, gently holding the child on her lap. A common practice in ancient Greek funerary art was to portray the deceased in everyday situations, frequently surrounded by family members, friends, and servants.
