Joachim Bandau's minimalist masterpieces and sculptural creations are deceptively simple yet profoundly poetic illusions that cleverly intersect at the juncture of geometric forms. His "Black Watercolours" series, a continuous work in progress since 1983, consists of ethereal watercolors featuring overlapping gray rectangles that seem to shift and undulate, evoking the essence of photographic film, delicate fabric, flickering shadows, and even the passage of time itself. According to Bandau, he relinquishes complete control over each stage of his creative process, allowing every step to interact with its predecessors while prioritizing transparency above all else. As the layers of his art continue to overlap, new and unplanned developments emerge, initiating a dynamic dialogue between himself and his work; often, it is his own creations that guide him through this process. Bandau's three-dimensional masterpieces are equally geometric in nature, characterized by sharp edges and angular corners, taking the form of multi-faceted metal rhombuses or sleek lacquered boxes that gleam with a polished finish.
