Fractal Vise Middle Body for Round Leadscrew Nut
prusaprinters

I printed out TeachingTech's Fractal Vise and bought all the hardware for it, only to realize that I'd made an oversight--their model calls for a different kind of leadscrew nut. Rather than try to obtain the right nut, I just decided to modify the middle body of the vise to support the one I had on hand. I thought other people might wind up in the same situation, so I decided to upload it.

The screw holes I built in to the model are for M3 screws; they're a little tight, so the screws self-tap into the plastic. Mine printed fine without supports, although the screw holes are unsupported overhangs.

Be sure to put orient the middle body so that the leadscrew nut goes on the outside of the jaws. That way it's the lip of the nut pushing against the plastic that forces the jaws together, rather than pulling on the screws self-tapped into the plastic. The latter is fine for opening the jaws, but for closing them, you want something more secure.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

I3 MK3S

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

200

Infill:

15

Filament: Duramic PETG Clear

Category: Parts
