Fractal Spikes
thingiverse
A volumetric object, modeled using fractals is offered in several versions: RAW data (zipped) with 400x400x400 8-bit dimensions; an AVI file with PNG codec and the same dimensions; a PLY mesh with 2.5M polygons as isosurface, and a smoothed, reduced STL mesh that contains 500K polygons. These versions are part of my series on volumetric objects to showcase the distinctions between polygonal and volume-based representations. To understand how volume-based data structures can enhance 3D printing, visit 40westdesigns.com/blog/?p=371.
