Fractal Dodecahedra

Fractal Dodecahedra

Summary: Fractal dodecahedra calculated by OpenSCAD. Print Settings Printer: Da Vinci 2.0 Duo Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Notes: The "daughter" dodecahedra are generated at the point where a corner of the daughter shares a corner of the "mother" dodecahedron. The stl files are generated with (mother:daughter) ratio = (1:0.279), which is the minimum ratio for one solid object to be produced. The OpenSCAD source generates the shape with a radius of 1.0mm, but the stl files are rotated and resized to a radius of 50mm. I printed this using my cheap FDM printer (Da Vinci), but I found that at fractal level >= 2, the facets facing down become dirty. One solution is to divide the solid into two when generating it, then get rid of supports and glue them together - which works much better. The switch "half" in OpenSCAD source controls this. However, even with this fix, a radius of 50mm is still too small for a second-level daughter dodecahedron, making it look less beautiful.
