V2 changes: - Added zip tie slots into the arms - Added XT60 battery connector and SMA/RP-SMA angled antenna mount V3 changes coming: - Slotted mounting holes for larger 28xx size motors - Redesigned arms for reduced frame weight - DJI O3 Air Unit integration This is a work in progress of my custom designed drone, meant to take GoPro footage and monitor through an FPV cam for chasing cars/motorcycles on the race track. In angle mode with the pitch limited, the drone reaches speeds of around 60-70mph. It can certainly fly faster in horizon/acrobatic mode where the pitch angle is not limited. It maintains a good thrust ratio even with the undersized motor and prop setup listed below. From the centers of the motors it is 300mm wide, 250mm long. Around 390mm frame size. You will need a large bed printer to print the frame. This design utilizes heat set M3 inserts and has multiple mounting options for standard 30x30mm and 20x20mm boards (see photos for reference). In addition to electronics, you will need the following hardware: - M3 threaded inserts - M3x8 screws - M3x10 screws - 1" wide velcro cinch straps - Zip ties - M5 hardware for GoPro For my electronics, I used: - Speedybee F405 V3 FC Stack w/ 50A ESC - Speedybee TX800 Analog VTX - Speedybee SMA RHCP 5.8G Antenna - RunCam Phoenix 2 - iFlight 2306 1700kv Motors - 6030-3 (6x3x3) Gemfan Cinelift 6" Propellers - 4S LiPo Battery - FlySky i6X Transmitter and Receiver - SoloGood 4.3" 5.8G FPV Monitor Additional printed mount for FPV monitor to FlySky transmitter (I secured the monitor to the mount with VHB tape): https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-flysky-turnigy-i6-transmitter-fpv-mount-21829 Notes on motor, propeller, and battery size: 2306 motors are considered undersized for a frame this size. Ideally, this frame should use 7-8" propellers. 6" 3-blade propellers are the max to be used with 2306 motors and you will notice oscillation/PID issues with any larger propellers, as found in testing. Due to the V2 frame, only motors with 16x16mm mounting holes currently fit. V3 will allow for larger 2806/2808 motors that would pair better with this frame size and further allow for larger propellers to be used. Recommended battery size is 2500-3500mAh. In testing, 1500mAh 4S LiPo packs yielded around 5-6 minutes of flight time with the above electronics. With larger packs (5200mAh shown in the photos), you will experience diminishing returns as the flight time only increases to around 10-11 minutes, despite almost 4x the capacity.
