A floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit is a versatile vessel utilized by the offshore oil and gas sector to produce, process hydrocarbons, and store oil. Capable of receiving hydrocarbons from itself or nearby platforms/subsea templates, FPSOs process them, store oil until offloaded onto tankers or, less frequently, transported via pipelines. Preferred in remote offshore regions due to ease of installation and no requirement for local pipeline infrastructure to export oil, FPSOs can be converted oil tankers or purpose-built vessels.
