Foša / The Land Gate, Zadar Croatia
sketchfab
The Land Gate was built in 1543, designed by renowned architect Michele Sanmicheli in the grand Renaissance style. This magnificent structure takes the form of a triumphant arch with three entranceways that served as the primary gateway to the city at that time. A sturdy wooden bridge supported by stone pillars connects the Land Gate to the Customs' Gate, now transformed into a fish restaurant located within the bustling port area. The central arch features an intricately carved image of St. Krševan riding triumphantly on horseback, symbolizing the coat of arms of Zadar City, while above it stands a colossal lion representing the Venetian Republic's proud emblem, that of St. Mark.
