FOXHOUND, an elite US Army special forces unit, has featured in numerous Metal Gear games. Formed in 1971 to handle local revolutions and global terrorism, the unit executes secret operations within sensitive combat zones. Big Boss leads FOXHOUND in the original game but betrays them by its end; in Metal Gear Solid, it turns rogue under Liquid Snake's leadership. The precursor to FOXHOUND is Force Operation X (FOX), led by Major Zero, which Naked Snake belonged to before forming FOXHOUND. Outside the series, FOXHOUND is referenced in Snatcher and Policenauts, inspiring a rock-jazz fusion band and replica clothing company.
