Four way hinge grid

Four way hinge grid

This was a thought experiment in creating super flexible mechanical hinge grids. It's not particularly useful in its current state. I got this idea stuck in my head and decided to print it out to see how it would turn out. This does demonstrate: * Full range of motion on four points * Uses pure mechanical hinges and ball joints to achieve a very flexible result The known issues are: * Connection bars are extremely fragile and can easily break * Resizing the grid requires hard-coded values * Resizing nodes demands extensive readjustment * It's not parametric * Overly tight tolerances I don't plan to make this parametric. There are patterns I'm just too lazy to figure out. All in all, the idea does sort of work but I don't see any use for it right now. Maybe one of you can come up with an application for this design. Update: I was unaware of this design before. This person had the main idea first!
