Four Sided Awesome Disposable Utility Blade
thingiverse
I was getting tired of constantly replacing the blade in my utility knife. To myself, I thought: wouldn't it be great to print a disposable version that I could simply discard once the blade became dull? Now, you're probably thinking: we already have enough disposable goods cluttering our landfills and destroying the earth! I didn't want to be labeled as an environmental disregarder who doesn't care about climate change, so I decided to make it eco-friendly by adding three more blades. This makes it last much longer and produces less waste! Once all four blades are dull, you can throw it away without feeling guilty. My friends tell me that this thing looks a lot like some sort of throwing star. I don't see it, but to be on the safe side: please don't throw this at anyone... that would be really lame. Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Prusa I3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 mm Infill: 20 - 25% or whatever Notes: Print the bottom.stl and top.stl files. Glue the blades into each printed piece with superglue or epoxy. Next, glue the two halves together and clamp. Alternatively, you can print it all as one piece using the full.stl file and insert the blades during the print. Two pauses will need to be inserted into the gcode. Slice the file at 0.2mm layer height. Find where the layer at 2mm ends and insert the following code: G91; Put in relative mode G1 Z10; Lower bed by 10mm G90; Put back in absolute mode G1 X0 Y0; Zero (home) the X & Y M0 Click to Restart; Pause and wait for the user G91; Put in relative mode G1 Z-10; Raise the bed back up 10mm G90; Put back in absolute mode Then find where the layer at 2.8 mm ends and insert the same. It helps to cover the top side of the blades with Aqua Net so that the plastic will stick. Be careful when inserting the blades into the print if you have a heated bed, they get hot quickly. I've included a gcode file that already has the pauses in it. It was created by Slic3r with a layer height of 0.2mm using a 0.4mm nozzle. Also, the skirt and brim are turned on.
